On Thursday March 12, The American University of Florence's Palazzi Community Center collaborated with Elena Santoni for yet another external artist exhibition.

The exhibition titled “Colors” showcased Santoni’s vibrant abstract paintings and explored the emotional and creative possibilities of color in art. As a public relations student, I was allowed the opportunity to conduct an interview with the extremely kind and talented artist, Elena Santoni.

Throughout the interview and exhibition, it became clear how much Santoni loves abstract art. Her works features bold palettes with many different tones, typically earthy colors. She aims to create an energetic but earthy environment.

According to Santoni, these colors evoke freshness and warmth to help show movement across the canvas. She began painting when she was younger, but picked it up 3 years ago in a more serious fashion. She chose abstract painting because it allows for freedom and creativity without borders.

As an artist, she began with a more classic style but then switched to abstract as she started to reflect more. Santoni favors the art with reds and yellows, and prioritizes the warm and fresh colors. Finally, to conclude the interview, Santoni mentioned that she is inspired to paint by the wide range of colors in everyday life. She pulls inspiration from the seaside and nature.

This event was the perfect opportunity for students to explore art with the local community. Elena Santoni was extremely informative and warm. Her art reminded attendees of the natural beauty surrounding us in everyday life with vibrant blues, yellows, and neutrals. The exhibit was beautifully lit with lights and smiles from the community. By combining her artistic expression with academic engagement, the exhibition created a wonderful space for artists, students, and the community.
