Final Student Exhibition: Interlude in Focus

A student-led exhibit of growth and creativity in photography and ceramics

Florence, April 30, 2025 — The Final Student Exhibit of the Spring 2025 semester, Interlude in Focus, brings together a compelling mix of photography and ceramic works by students from The American University of Florence & Florence University of the Arts. Unveiled on April 30 at the Palazzi Community Center, this show captures the rhythm, pause, and transformation of student life abroad–both in art and identity.

This semester-long journey began in January, as students immersed themselves in Italian art traditions and exhibition curation under the guidance of seasoned professors and guest artists. The results speak not only to technical growth, but also to a deepening sense of creative voice. For many, Interlude in Focus marks their first public exhibition—a milestone in their evolving artistic paths.

Photography student, Adelai Robison reflects on her semester: “It's really amazing to see my improvements throughout my artistic journey and my photo journey, it makes me a little emotional but I'm really happy!” Her work, alongside those of her peers, was brought to life through the curation efforts of the gallery exhibition course led by Professor Lapo Morgantini.

The course was more than a classroom—it was a collaborative studio, where students were treated not just as learners, but as equals. “Lapo affected me in such a positive light,” says curating student Emma Rose. “He allowed me to creatively work freely. He didn't treat me like a student. He treated me like a colleague. I think that is such a beautiful thing to be treated with the same respect he treats others he works with. He gave me the ability to speak my own mind, speak with confidence, and speak my own opinions on how the show should go… He led me to believe like, ‘oh, wait, I can actually do this.’”

Morgantini has been with The American University of Florence for the past several years, and has guided this semester’s students with both patience and vision. “They came over here at the beginning of the year and they were a little bit confused,” he shares. “Now, they are not fully integrated, but they still created a show and exhibition for the city of Florence. And they walked into this space for this last exhibit like it's their home.”

Interlude in Focus isn’t just a student showcase. It’s a celebration of process–of pause, reflection, and growth. It reveals the subtle interludes between learning and becoming, between arriving and belonging. Through every frame and form, it captures the quiet beauty of transformation.

This exhibition is now open to the public at the Palazzi Community Center located in Via Ricasoli 21. It offers not only a glimpse into the minds of emerging artists, but also a heartfelt farewell to a semester shaped by creativity, courage, and community.
