Tiny Florence: A Celebration of the City’s Small Moments

On Display at Corridoio Fiorentino Until October 15, 2025

This Fall, The American University of Florence has once again opened the doors of its Corridoio Fiorentino gallery at the Palazzi Community Center for Tiny Florence, a student-led photography exhibition that highlights Florence in many forms. Running until October 15, 2025, the exhibition continues a tradition of merging artistic expression with cultural exploration, drawing students and the local community to come together as one.

Tiny Florence sheds light on the creative outcomes of the university’s Photography and Gallery Curating programs. The idea is simple but powerful: all the works are shown as tiny 6x6 cm prints. These miniature black-and-white snapshots invite viewers to slow down, lean in, and experience Florence at a scale that mirrors the brief yet profound details of daily life.

This semester’s edition continues to explore Florence beyond postcard imagery. Guided by Barbara Leoloni, a Professor here at AUF, photography students turned their lenses toward the character of the city’s neighborhoods—Santa Maria Novella, San Giovanni, Santo Spirito, and Santa Croce—capturing overlooked corners, spontaneous moments, and subtle details that define the Florentine spirit.

The exhibition’s curation is fully student-driven. Once photographs were finalized, students involved in the Gallery Curating course organized the layout of the show. Led by Professor Lapo Morgantini, the gallery students arranged photographs in ways that reflect the energy and atmosphere of each neighborhood. Working in groups, without knowledge of one another’s plans, the students created distinct displays that together form a cohesive journey through Florence, each group were given 25 frames so they were tasked to collaboratively choose the best 25 pictures from their given neighborhood, giving each group an additional challenge.

Tiny Florence is more than an artistic showcase—it’s also a philanthropic effort. Each photograph on display is available for purchase; €15 for an unframed photo and €30 for a framed, with all proceeds going toward AUF’s long-term student scholarship fund. The initiative ensures that future generations of students can study, create, and engage with Florence in the same way.

Whether you are a local, a visitor, or a student, Tiny Florence offers a unique opportunity to rediscover the city through a new lens, one that magnifies the beauty of small moments and the power of shared perspectives.
